Mary Parkhill called Chicago home for quite awhile. While working in the corporate world, she also attended business school classes in Chicago during the evening. Even with a hectic schedule, she found time to explore the city and found a lot of fantastic photography locations.
One of her favorite spots to catch the Chicago sunrise before work was in front of the Bean (or Cloud Gate in Millennium Park) when the sun would peak through the reflective artwork. Mary found the reflection of the city combined with gorgeous sunrises over Lake Michigan awe-inspiring.
She frequently travels back to the “windy city” to capture more Chicago landscape photography for her corporate and private clients. As her portfolio evolves and more artwork is added to her collections, make sure to check back to see her latest work.
Chicago Sunrise Photography
Chicago is known for a lot of different things - incredible restaurants, the Cubs and of course, the infamous wind. One element that keeps Mary coming back to Chicago are the beautiful sunrises that peak over Lake Michigan. The architectural photography opportunities are endless and the cityscape is always changing with new buildings frequently changing Chicago’s skyline.

Chicago Bean Photo Backstory
It’s pretty tough to find a time when there are no other visitors at the bean. Even in the wee hours of the morning, runners and joggers stop by for a quick selfie before they continue their run and in the evening, lovers and friends take casual strolls stopping to admire the work of art. Early one morning, I found myself at the bean by myself for a split second. As the sun was coming up, I managed to position myself in the middle of the beautiful architecture as it captured the warm glow of the sun on the Chicago skyline behind me.

Waking up early to go into the office is rarely someone’s forte. But if you get the opportunity to catch one of Chicago’s beautiful sunrises from an office window, it can be well worth it. Over the years, Mary has captured some of the city’s most beautiful sites, cityscapes and iconic shots; however, she is far from completing her Chicago portfolio. Each year, Mary goes back to Chicago with a new perspective and a new way of looking at the city.
